What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine that uses fine needles to penetrate the skin to promote healing.  Each acupuncture point lies on pathways, also known as meridians, which connect to each organ system and surface area of the body.  Since every person is uniquely different, your acupuncturist tailors a treatment specifically to address the underlying root cause of a disease in order to alleviate your symptoms.   Microneedling therapy, also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) and Percutaneous (through the skin) Collagen Induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of the MD Needle Pen. The mechanical action of the pen allows the needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled “injury” at a specific depth. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the bodies natural healing process to fill these micro wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed for improved blood supply. With microneedling, the top layer of the skin is parted without being damaged—leaving the skin intact.  Think of irrigating your lawn, but on your face! It does not “burn” your skin like peels or more invasive lasers. The needle penetration depth can be adjusted from 0.25mm to 2.50mm into the skin depending on the area of the body and the skin condition being treated. Using skin needling consistently will trigger the bodies repair process until the desired level of skin rejuvenation is achieved. Microneedling results improvement in skin tone and texture, firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

How It Works?

It’s all about balance. Acupuncture works by regulating your body’s nervous system. We all know about the “fight or flight” response, right? Well, acupuncture helps to take your body out of that state - otherwise known as the Sympathetic Nervous System - and puts you into the “rest and digest state” - the Parasympathetic Nervous System. Long before stress at work, or a hectic after school schedule, or overdue bills were a thing, the human body could easily switch on and off the switch for your fight or flight system.
It was as simple as being chased by a lion, and then after you out run it because you’re super awesome and fast, your brain realizes you’re no longer being chased, and the Sympathetic Nervous System switches off. Our modern day “lion chase” are things like those bills, those extracurricular activities and that stress from work, but most of the time, our brain can’t figure out when the chase is over. Acupuncture can re-teach your brain to flip that switch when necessary by relaxing the body and mind.

What It Helps

Is Acupuncture for you? Did you know some common ailments acupuncture can relieve are: Addiction (drugs, alcohol, cigarettes), asthma, allergies, anxiety, depression, facial pain (TMJ disorder, trigeminal neuralgia, bell’s palsy), gastrointestinal distress (IBS, stress ulcers, crohn’s disease, colitis, nausea), gynecological issues (PMS, PCOS, irregular menstruation), headaches (migraines, tension headaches), insomnia, joint pain and stiffness, muscle pain & spasms, neuropathy and nerve pain & stress.

Meet Your Acupuncturist

Tatiana’s inspiration to become an acupuncturist began way before that word was ever part of her vocabulary. As a child she always seemed to question “why?” more than the average kid. When her health hit a bump in the road in her late teens, this question screamed louder than ever. Acupuncture focuses on treating the cause of an illness rather than the symptoms that we experience.

Once she began treatments with her acupuncturist, the question of “why” was answered, and this ignited the fire in her to pursue her true passion. Her compassion and ability to see people’s true potential is what entices many to put their health in her hands. Tatiana received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University at Buffalo and holds a Master’s level degree from Tri-State College of Acupuncture in New York City. She studied beneath world renowned acupuncturists such as Kiiko Matsumoto, Mark Seem, and Whitfield Reaves.  She is trained in three styles of acupuncture as well as a cosmetic acupuncture technique, and a certification in the use of essential oils.  Within her acupuncture training, she is also proficient in trigger point therapy, electrical stimulation acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, cupping and gua sha.  In Tatiana’s free time she enjoys gardening, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being a Cat Mom.
